1800-luvun jälkipuoliskolla taidegrafiikasta kehittyi täysimittainen liike, ja taiteilijat ottivat käyttöön käsitteen ”maalari-grafiikko”. Liikkeen keskus Pariisi sai uuden kemistin, François Charbonnelin, joka avasi myymälän lähelle École des Beaux-Artsia ja Louvrea. Hän myi omia värien ja pohjien reseptejään, mikä teki hänen liikkeestään aikakauden johtavien taiteilijoiden kokoontumispaikan. Charbonnel paransi tuotteitaan jatkuvasti ottamalla vastaan palautetta ja hyödyntämällä kemian edistysaskeleita. Nykyään Charbonnel on kansainvälinen viite taidegrafiikan alalla.
